Marksville, LA. – (June 10, 2021) – The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana and Paragon Casino Resort are proud to sponsor the 2021 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
On Friday, June 4, 2021, members of the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Marksville Police Department, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana Police Department, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana State Police – Troop E (Alexandria) joined forces to escort a local Special Olympics participant, Tyler Couvillion, through the Avoyelles Parish leg of his run to the 2021 Special Olympics competition in Covington, Louisiana. The runners and escorts enjoyed a brief rest with refreshments at Paragon Casino Resort before continuing their journey.
“The Tunica-Biloxi Police Department and the entire Tribe were happy to escort this young man on such an important journey. Tyler is an inspiration to me and the entire Tunica-Biloxi community,” Marshall Pierite, Chairman of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe commented, “Congratulations to Tyler and all of the athletes competing in this year’s games.”
Tyler Couvillion is the 15-year-old son of Jared and Roxanne Couvillion of Hessmer, LA. Tyler attends Bunkie Magnet High and has been involved in the Special Olympics for two years. Tyler earned a gold medal in Bowling at the 2020 State Games in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During the pandemic, he participated in many virtual Special Olympics events and health forums. Tyler loves being a part of Special Olympics because everyone is so friendly, and it feels good to be a winner.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, almost 110,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe.
